Recap - August Monthly Meeting

Hello D20 Community, 

CEC 20 held its monthly meeting last night at the District 20 Office! Thank you to everyone who joined our meeting, whether you were with us in person or online! Your engagement and great insights were truly appreciated. We had some really important discussions, including - 

Guest Speakers 

Our meeting included two notable speakers,  Kent Bowman, Vice President of Educational Leadership and Development and Lucia Figueras, Students in Temporary Housing Regional Manager. Each guest spoke provided CEC 20 and its community a presentation on their work and efforts in District 20. We thank them for joining us and look forward to continued collaboration. 

Superintendent Report

Executive Director of School Support and Operations, Laura Kaiser, provided the superintendent report for this months meeting. This report focused on the upcoming Cell Phone Mandate being introduced this school year in NYCPS. Council members engaged in extensive conversation regarding this new rule and its potential impact on student safety. 

Resolutions

CEC 20 approved two resolutions! Resolution 1 which aims to expand non-voting student representation on Community Education Councils (CEC) and Resolution 2 which urges  NYCPS to clearly communicate with families regarding the upcoming smartphone ban policies in advance of school start.
