Recap - February Monthly Meeting

Updated: Mar 25

Hello!

CEC 20 held its monthly meeting last night at M.S . 939 Sunset School of Cultural Learning. We are very grateful to have had such a supportive staff welcome us to their school, especially Principal Mousouroulis. Thank you to all our attendees for your active engagement and involvement, we value your input and encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts, concerns! Notable topics discussed at our meeting include -

HMH Curriculum Discussion

Our lengthy and proactive public speaking session revolved around the HMH Into Reading Program. Many parents, teachers, and students shared their opinions regarding the implementation of this program. CEC 20 hears the feedback given by the public and we look forward to meeting the needs of our district.

Report of Superintendent Pretto

Dr. Pretto awarded students with certificates for their Respect for All project. Respect for All is a system-wide response to bullying and harassment. The DOE is committed to keeping our schools safe, supportive, and free from discrimination. Congratulations to the winners,

Dr. Pretto's report also included an overview of Local Law 51, an in depth look at District 20's Into Reading Curriculum, and presentation on the 2024 - 2025 School Year budgets which included an overview of Fair Student Funding and a review of District 20 schools' budget from 2023 - 2024.

Resolution 8 - NYCPS Website Compliance with Local Law 51 on Bullying Reporting

As per local law 51, New York City Public Schools is to release a report on the Department of Education website for the preceding year, which would include data for each community education district, and for each individual high school, regarding student-to-student bullying, harassment, intimidation, and discrimination. CEC 20 attempted to find out the statistics of bullying, harassment, intimidation, and discrimination through the Department of Education information hub. Unfortunately, CEC 20 was unsuccessful. The last time the site was updated was November 13, 2022 . Therefore, May 31, 2023 and November 30, 2023 were never updated or included on the website. We ask that, in compliance with Local Law 51, the website be updated.

We encourage you to stay connected by visiting our website, attending future meetings, and reaching out to your community representatives with any questions or suggestions. If you were unable to attend last night's meeting, please visit our YouTube channel to watch the entire recording. Thank you once again for your attendance and active participation. We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting on March 13th!
