Recap - September Monthly Meeting

Hello D20 Community,

CEC 20 held its monthly meeting last night at J.H.S. 259 William McKinley. We'd like to thank Principal Geary for hosting us and to all the staff and PCs who assisted us! We also want to express our appreciation to all the attendees, both virtual and in-person, for your active participation and contributions! Notable topics discussed at our meeting include -

Presentation from NIA and FIAO

CEC 20 was fortunate to have representatives from the afterschool programs, NIA and FIAO join us for an open discussion surrounding the recent loss of funding. CEC 20 members, NIA, FIAO and Supt. Pretto discussed the process for applying for funding, how programs are chosen, schools directly impacted in District 20, and the potential impact Gov. Hochul's $3 million investment will have on these programs.

Report of Superintendent Pretto

Dr. Pretto introduced the new principal of P.S. 160 William T. Sampson, Christophe Gullo and P.S. 971 School of Math, Science, and Healthy Living, Tasia Butsikares. CEC 20 expresses its gratitude to former principals Margaret Russo of P.S. 160 and Ruth Stanislaus of P.S. 971 for their great work and dedication to District 20! Supt. Pretto discussed student safety, action plans,  and initiatives planned for the 2024-25 school year. We are also given a review of data from the 2023 - 2024 School Year regarding Attendance, Academic Screeners, NYC Exams, and results from NYC Surveys.

Stay connected by visiting our website, attending future meetings, and reaching out to your community representatives or us with any questions or suggestions.
